SNODAS Snowpack Maps

The SNODAS snowpack maps show the snow-water equivalent in the mountain snowpack. Data from these maps is analyzed by CWCB staff to determine the risk of snowmelt flooding for individual river basins and the entire state.

Maps are posted once a month during the snow season as SNODAS data becomes available. Additional maps will be posted if the need arises and data is available.

The SNOTEL SNODAS Median series provides a visual representation of the snow water equivalent (SWE) median values used in water supply forecasting for January 1st, February 1st, March 1st, and April 1st. The medians are calculated using a 30-year interval in agreement with World Meteorological Organization standards by the Natural Resources Conservation Service for each SNOTEL and Snow Course site. Currently, the 30-year period for median calculation is 1981-2010.
