The CWCB provides leadership to assist in the preparation for and recovery from major flood events in Colorado, including coordination of federal, state and local resources through the
Colorado Flood Task Force; dissemination of flood-related information;
documentation of flood damages and flooded areas;
mapping and re-mapping of regulatory flood-prone boundaries based on the best available information; and
technical guidance and financial support to communities on a case by case basis.
To report impending or actual flooding in Colorado, call the Division of Emergency Management’s 24-hour emergency line at 303-279-8855. For non-emergency resource questions, call 720-852-6600. |
Flood Outlook
The CWCB contracts with Dewberry, to provide a daily
Flood Threat Bulletin (FTB) containing a statewide overview of the flood threat facing Colorado counties. The FTB includes:
- Statewide 24-hour precipitation map
- Daily forecast
- 7 to 15-day flood threat outlook
- Related weather links
The FTB is coordinated with the National Weather Service (NWS), and encompasses the spring runoff season, the summer thunderstorm season and the early fall monsoon season (May through September).
Snowmelt Flooding
The
SNODAS snowpack maps show the snow-water equivalent in the mountain snowpack. Data from these maps is analyzed by the CWCB staff to determine the risk of snowmelt flooding for individual river basins and the entire state.
Additional seasonal snowpack data is available through the following links:
CWCB Flood Documentation Program
Each year, known flood events that cause property damage, injuries or loss of life are documented using funds from the CWCB Flood Documentation Program. In most cases, an engineer is sent on site within 24-48 hours. Data collected for future use may include an estimate of the flood frequency; a listing of known damages, injuries or deaths; interviews with local officials and professional experts; rainfall reconstruction; and a review of media reports. Results of this documentation are kept on file and are available to any interested person upon request.
