New Home Construction Features Latest Water Conservation Technology
|
The CWCB recently participated in two separate press events, alongside Colorado Springs Utilities, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to help promote two new water efficient homes in Golden and Colorado Springs. Both homes are EPA WaterSense and EnergyStar certified. The home in Golden will be Indoor Air Plus certified, while the home in Colorado Springs is a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) approved home. The EPA estimates WaterSense homes can reduce water use by 20% or 50,000 gallons a year and a family of four can save up to $600 in water, sewer and energy bills per year. The CWCB is encouraged to see home builders incorporate water conservation measures into their building practices. |
Golden Home
Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver is in the process of finishing this home with help from the family who will be living in the EnergyStar, WaterSense and Indoor Air Plus certified home. This will be the first WaterSense home Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver will build and second WaterSense home in Colorado. The EPA estimates the family could potentially save $10-35/month on their water bill and $46-80/month on their energy bill. Construction is scheduled to being in January 2012 and finished in the spring of 2012.

Colorado Springs Home
The home builder, GJ Gardner, built the first WaterSense home in Colorado and in EPA’s Region 8. The home was showcased in the Parade of Homes from August 5-21, 2011. The CWCB joined the EPA and Colorado Springs Utilities in promoting this home in the Gold Hill Mesa area of Colorado Springs. The 210 acre neighborhood the house is built on was a former gold ore milling site and has been restored and redeveloped for a traditional neighborhood under the supervision of the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. The press event was held on September 29, 2011.
